Internet Privacy and Security

As the internet expands and we spend more and more time on it and share more and more information, it becomes so much easier for people to find and steal personal information from us. Many people feel differently about how they want to be seen (or not seen) on the internet. Some people do not care at all about how they are found on the internet, while others want to be as private as possible, with only people that they know and are close with to be able to see their profiles. I think that there are positives for people on all parts of this spectrum. While a pretty large number of people want to keep a low profile on social media, they are widely outnumbered by the group of people that want to share anything and everything they can on the internet. I think that wanting to share your life with people that have similar interests is a good thing and can lead to other great things, but so many people fall into the trap of fishing for likes and engagements on their posts that they overshare and give out way too much information that their information eventually could fall into the hands of someone that could do something bad with it. Especially with how much information that seemingly everyone has stored on their phones and even individual accounts for different apps/websites, if something would go wrong (ie. account getting hacked or phone stolen) then the person that it happened to would be prone to having so much personal information exposed, like their bank account, address, family members. Is there a possibility that we could be safer with our internet footprint so our information isn’t everywhere? Of course, but I really doubt that it will happen due to people just simply not realizing or caring that their information can be found and stolen almost anywhere.
